Mahasirs Mudra for Headaches

Mahasirs Mudra for Headaches

Mahasirs mudra is a hand posture practiced for various health benefits. It is also called ‘large head mudra’. One of the important purposes of this mudra is to reduce headaches.   Gertrud Hirschi shares in her book, Mudras Yoga in Your Hands:  Headaches have a great variety of causes and can hardly be made to disappear once and for all with one single mudra.  Frequently, weather influences or tension in the eyes, neck, back or pelvis are at fault; or there are problems with the sinuses or digestion.  The Mahasirs Mudra balances energy, has a tension-relieving effect, and eliminates mucous congestion in the frontal sinuses.

Mahasirs Mudra for HeadachesHow to do the Mahasirs Mudra

1.  Sit or lie down in a comfortable place. Take a few, deep cleansing breaths, exhaling through the mouth. Roll the shoulders, neck, and head to loosen up.

2.  Place your ring finger into the fold of the thumb. Touch the tips of your thumb, index and middle finger.

3.  Keep the baby straight.  Do this with both hands.

4.  Focus on breathing deep into the belly.

5.  When exhaling, imagine that waves of energy are flowing down from head through the body, and leaving through your hands and feet.  Hold mudra as long as necessary.

6.  After a while, imagine that the head is clear, cool, clean, and light. Stay Relaxed.   Do at least 3 to 6 times daily.Mahasirs Mudra for Headaches

Benefits of Mahasirs Mudra

1.  It balances energy in the head and releases stress & tension.  It quiets the senses and calms the emotions.

2.  It eliminates mucous congestion in the frontal sinuses.

3.  It relaxes weather influences or tension in the eyes.

4.  It improves concentration and meditation.

Additional Measures Against Headaches (found in Gertrud Hirschi’s book):

1.  Dip a washcloth in water that has some added vinegar and place it on your feet.  Wrap around the soles, the bottom of the feet and the toes as well.

2.  Next massage both the frontal eminences on the forehead.   Then massage up and down your neck by vigorously pressing your index and middle fingers into the middle of the nape of the neck. (See diagram to the right).

3.  Finally complete these last three steps by forming the Mahasirs Mudra with your fingers.

Crown Chakra Meditation Revisited

Crown Chakra Meditation Revisited

This post first appeared March 2, 2013.  I find when working with clients that many times their Crown Chakra needs balancing.  The following lovely meditation for balancing the Crown Chakra was introduced by Sue Windred.   This would be an excellent chakra meditation to record in your own voice, reading slowly and allowing for pauses where appropriate.

Crown Chakra Meditation Revisited(The author’s spaces below indicate pauses).

“Sit back comfortably      with your back straight,      take a deep breath      and breathe out all your tension.    Imagine yourself on a grassy patch      on top of a hill. Looking up    you see a beautiful rainbow      in the clear blue sky.     All the colors are clear    yet blending into each other.    As you gaze at the rainbow    you feel it coming towards you.     You watch     as it gets closer     until it is above your head.    Sitting there    you feel the colors absorbing in through your Crown Chakra.

Feel the red going down to your Root Chakra.    The orange going down to your Sacral Center.   The yellow going down to your Solar Plexus.     The green going down to the heart.  The blue going to the throat.   The indigo going to third eye.   And the violet to your crown.

Feel all the colors     absorbing     into all your chakras.     Sit for awhile     continue to take in all the colors.       When you are ready      open your eyes,      feeling relaxed     but alive.”

This chakra balancing meditation can be used whenever and as often as you like.

August Summer Days

Who made the world?

Who made the swan, and the black bear?

Who made the grasshopper?

This grasshopper, I mean– the one who has flung herself out of the grass,

the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,

who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down–

who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.

Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.

Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.

August Summer Days

I don’t know exactly what a prayer is.

I do know how to pay attention,

how to fall down into the grass,

how to kneel in the grass,

how to be idle and blessed,

how to stroll through the fields,

which is what I have been doing all day.

August Summer Days

Tell me, what else should I have done?

Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?

Tell me, what is it you plan to do

With your one wild and precious life?”

Remove Fear Freom Body With Color

There are many ways to introduce and use color for helping to remove fear from the body.  Below is a Color Chart showing what fear is held by different body locations and what color to use.  Here are simple suggestions how to introduce colors recommended for specific body fear:

Remove Fear From Body With Color

1.   Pick up color felt swatches at local craft store.  These can be cut to any size, however, (no smaller than  4″ x 4″ works best).  Take some quiet time and place your felt on the needed area(s).

2.  Take time to relax and place appropriate colored stones on the areas that need attention is also very helpful.  I would recommend repeating as often as needed.

3.  Try relaxing during quiet time and practice visualizing breathing color needed to help heal the body fear you are holding.  There is nothing wrong with working with all three of these suggestions together.

LET THERE BE MANY WINDOWS IN YOUR SOUL

~ Ralph Waldo Trine

American Philosopher 1866-1958

Windows In Oue Soul

Let there be many windows in our soul,

That all the glory of the Universe may beautify it.

Not the narrow pane of one poor creed can catch the radiant rays

That shine from countless sources.

Tear away the blinds of superstition;

Let the light pour through fair windows,

Broad as truth itself,  and high as heaven.

Windows In Our Soul

Tune your ear to all the worldless music of the stars

And to the voice of nature,

And your heart shall turn to truth

and  goodness as the plant

to the sun.

 Windows In Our Soul

A thousand unseen hands reach down

To help you to their peace-crowned heights,

And all the forces of the firmament

Shall fortify your strength.

Be not afraid to thrust aside half truths

And grasp the whole.

Healing Properties of Chalcedony

June 22nd, 2017 | Posted by Velda in GEMSTONES

Chalcedony is a type of quartz that comes in many colors. In Michael Gienger’s book, Crystal Power, Crystal Healing, he shares the following information on the healing properties of Chalcedony.Healing Properties of Calcedony

Spiritually:  Represents both aspects of communication; the ability to listen, to understand, and to communicate effectively.

Emotionally:  Bestows a light-heartedness, and elated feeling for life. It enhances conscious self-awareness, improves memory, calms and dissolves stress.

Mentally:  Improves powers of oratory, verbal dexterity, and increases creativity and openness to inspiration.

Physically:  Alleviates problems of the respiratory tract, lowers blood pressure, and enhances the immune system.  It can also help with early stages of diabetes.

Chalcedony Healing Properties

Spiritually:  Helps us live in the present, face unpleasant things, communicate calmly, and remain relaxed.

Emotionally:  Stimulates proper processing of inner images and memories.  Helps develop open attitude towards fellow human beings and the environment.

Mentally:  It encourages both a proper sense of judgement and tolerance.

Physically:  Stimulates the metabolism of copper in the body, detoxification of the liver, and strengthens the immune system.

Healing Properties of Chalcedony

Spiritually:  Represents sociable nature which is able to discriminate clearly between its own spiritual goals and the influences of others.

Emotionally:  Encourages clear thinking and systematic research to identify what motives and values lie behind a piece of information.

Mentally:  Also encourages precise thinking to comprehend the real meaning and motives behind information received.

Physically:  Its effects are similar but stronger that Blue Chalcedony in the case of chronic illnesses and the physical problems associated with smoking.

Healing Properties of Chalcedony

Spiritually:  Represents liveliness, understanding and helpfulness.  It enhances the ability to listen and help others deal with their problems and sorrows.

Emotionally:  Encourages goodness, kindness, and warm-heartedness.  It bestows a carefree attitude, inner peace, and deep trust, particularly in the case of conflicts and psychosomatic illnesses, such as anxiety about the heart.

Mentally:  Teaches us to view the world with a sense of wonder.  It brings a child-like curiosity, the willingness to learn new things, and encourages the gift of story-telling.

Physically:  Offers liveliness and warmth.  It fortifies the heart so it can function strongly without effort.  It eases breastfeeding and provides the inner tranquility for the task.  Just like the Blue Chalcedony, it enhances the immune system and the flow of lymphatic fluids.

Healing Properties of Chalcedony

Spiritually:  Bestows strength, persistence, the energy to overcome difficulties, and helps to attain set goals.  Helps keep the mind flexible without sacrificing our own point of view.

Emotionally:  Gives us strength and confidence.  Makes us aware of our own life’s dreams and helps to realize them without letting a fixation upon them arise.

Mentally:  Encourages openness and inspiration and fortifies our intentions, which makes it easier for one’s voice to be heard.

Physically:  Stimulates blood circulation without allowing the blood pressure to become to high.  It inhibits the absorption of nutrients in the small intestine and reduces hunger pangs.  (Red Chalcedony should only be used continuously for about two – three weeks.  Inhibiting the absorption of nutrients longer may induce temporary nausea).

Tuesday's Healing Word-Detachment

Detachment is experiencing our feelings without allowing them to control us.   We can practice letting go and accepting what we cannot change.  It is freedom from bias or prejudice.  Detachment is a deep breath of peace and patience in response to unexpected anger.  We can listen without losing ourselves.

“Detachment does not mean

non-involvement.

You can be deeply involved

but not entangled.”

~Ali ibn abi Talib (601-661)

Tuesday's Healing Word - Detachment

It is self-healing to detach from others’ choices, knowing that their spiritual work is not ours to do.  When we see and accept our mistakes honestly, we can make amends and start afresh with detachment.

Tuesday's Healing Word - Detachment

Practicing detachment frees us to lead our lives with grace.

Auric Crystal Healing

June 1st, 2017 | Posted by Velda in POETRY FOR WOMEN | RETIRED FEATURE POSTS

Auric Crystal Healing

Your Aura is the energetic force that surrounds your entire being. The purpose of the aura is to act as a protective screen to block out and repel the negative energies, thoughts, and feelings of others, and also to prevent leakage of your own energy. However, holes, known as auric tears, can form within the aura, weakening it, and thus making it susceptible to harm by invading outside energies. These tears have many causes, including stress, trauma, depression, abuse, and physical injuries or illnesses to name just a few.

The following stones can be used for auric health and protection:

Auric Crystal HealingAmber aligns the subtle bodies with the physical body. Releases negative energy.

Amethyst heals holes in the aura, cleanses it, draws in divine energy to protect the aura.

Apache Tear protects the aura and prevents it from absorbing negative energies from any source, but especially the negativity of other people.

Bloodstone cleanses the aura.

Carnelian repairs the aura.

Citrine cleanses and aligns the aura.

Jet protects against other’s negative thoughts.

Magnetite strengthens the aura.

Quartz cleanses, protects, and strengthens the aura. Seals auric tears.

Smoky Quartz  grounds energy and removes negative energy from the aura.

Green Tourmaline heals auric tears.

Methods used to protect your Aura:

1.  Slowly pass your chosen stone or crystal over the aura (the space around the entire body).  An auric tear will feel cold and empty. The stone may start to feel differently, such as becoming cold or vibrating slightly. Once you’ve located a hole or tear, hold the stone over the area for several moments.

2.  Hold your chosen stone or crystal over each chakra starting with the Root Chakra for a few moments. Doing so periodically will help to keep your chakras strong and healthy, which in turn will help to keep your aura healthy as well. If damage is sensed over a chakra (the same as with the aura), move the stone in a counter-clockwise motion over the chakra. This will release any negative energy that may be lingering there. Then move the stone in a clockwise pattern over the chakra. This will heal the chakra and seal it.

3.  The easiest way to use stones for protection of any kind (physical, emotional, auric, etc.) is to carry your chosen protection stone in a pocket, or a stone talisman may be carried for protection, or your favorite aura protection stone jewelry can be worn.

Lakshmi Goddess Of Abundance & Wisdom

May 24th, 2017 | Posted by Velda in GODDESS WISDOM

Goddess Of Abundance & Wisdom

Goddess Lakshmi (pronounced LOCK-shmee) is known as the Hindu Goddess of Abundance and Wisdom.  Her connection to the lotus flowers, elephants, and water represents her absolute faith in the fertility and abundance available to everyone.  Lakshmi works with Ganesh, the elephant-headed deity, known as the “overcomer of obstacles.”  United together, they are an unstoppable team to help you release fear and accept abundance in your life.

Lakshmi Goddess of Abundance & Wisdom

Lakshmi manifested herself in the form of art and knowledge.  She is a lover of books and of the wisdom to be found in them and is happy to bring you a supply of knowledge and opportunity  She is known to have taught her followers to be truthful, philanthropic and sincere.  Amy Zerner & Monte Farber’s book, Goddess, Guide Me, give us the following:

Lakshmi Goddess of Abundance & WisdomLAKSHMI’S  RITUAL – GET WISE!

“Charge up” a glass of water with energy by placing a small, clean amethyst crystal in it and leaving the glass on a window sill in the moonlight (if possible) overnight. In the morning, remove the crystal and face the sunlight while drinking the water which has absorbed LAKSHMI’s wisdom. Now close your eyes and imagine a beautiful lotus opening up; from a bud to a mature open flower. See it unfolding in the center of your forehead between your eyes, the place where the mystical third eye is found. Recite the following words nine times:

Unveil my eye and let me see.

Reveal what has eluded me.

Let freedom, faith and honesty

Take me far on land and sea.

Whenever you need to rise above your situation or gain perspective, imagine the lotus blooming as you see your third eye opening as well. Be open to the answers you will receive.

How To:  Touch tips of all fingers together except for the pinkie fingers. Hold hands out to sides in a cactus position with extended pinkies pointing upwards.

Practice Fearlessness Mudra Exercises

Fearlessness Mudra Exercises

•  Mudras can be practiced while seated, lying down, standing, and walking.  It is best to be in a meditative mood.

•  Gertrud Hirschi, author of Mudras Yoga in Your Hands,  suggests a good time to practice is a few minutes before getting up and a few minutes before falling asleep, before or after meals, and on your walks.

•  Pay attention to a symmetrical posture and your breath.  To calm yourself, remember to slow your breath.  To refresh yourself, remember to intensify your breathing.

•  Great masters do not agree on the length of time to practice mudra positions.  I recommend that you start with holding each mudra 1 to 3 minutes at least 2 – 3 times a day.   If you can only hold these positions for one minute and often during the day, you will benefit.  FEARLESSNESS FEELS GREAT!
