tuesday's healing word smile

The positive definition of a smile is an upward curving of the corners of the mouth that indicates pleasure, friendliness, or amusement.  The Vietnamese Buddhist Monk and poet, Thich Nhat Hanh, writes in Being Peace: “If we turn a smile on, we really are the smile…Even the tiniest bud of a smile on our lips has the healing power to relax all the muscles in our face, banish worries and fatigue, nourish awareness, calm us, and return us to the peace we thought we had lost.”

Forgiveness:  the act of forgiving, pardon, overlooking mistakes and letting go of resentments.  Forgiveness frees us from the needless pain of reliving a hurt over and over. Forgiving oneself and others can have a positive impact on the way old wounds heal.  tuesday's word forgivenessThe role of unforgiveness is the opposite of forgiveness in the healing process. Sincerity is being open and genuine

Sincerity is the quality of being honest, true and real. When we are sincere, our actions reflect a truthful heart and come from a pure intent.   To be sincere to ourselves, we don’t need to impress others or pretend to be something we are not. We know it is enough to simply be ourselves.

healing word dance

Dance can be considered a form of non-verbal communication.  ”When Did You Stop Dancing?” Is a question asked by Shamans when someone is depressed.  We can look at dance (the action) as another self- healing modality to use for overall healing and happiness.

Tuesday's Healing Word-Dance

Besides connecting with your body, dance helps with balance, improving memory, assists in flexibility, and makes you feel alive.  Also a 21-year study of senior citizens, 75 and older, was led by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, to monitor rates of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. The only physical activity to offer protection against dementia was dancing.  The greatest risk reduction of any activity studied, cognitive or physical was dancing frequently at 76% compared to reading 35% and crossword puzzles at 47%.

peacefulness good for the soul

We all long for peacefulness.  It is a sense of harmony, inner calmness and tranquility.  Peacefulness comes from quiet reflection, releasing the past and letting go of anxiety.  It is when we don’t give in to anger and resolve conflict in a just and gentle way.  We take care of ourselves by keeping a graceful pace, not becoming overwhelmed. Our peacefulness begins with peace in our hearts.

peacefulness is healing

hug healing word

Hug:  Act of holding someone (self) in one’s arms, typically to express compassion, affection or joy.

A hug is like a boomerang -

you get it back right away.

~Bil Keane (Oct. 1922-Nov. 2011) American Cartoonist

hugs are healing

I am a huge fan of hugs and have written blogs on hugging trees, the Spleen hug, and have more planned for future posts. My fondest childhood hugging memories are of my Dad’s healing bear hugs. The most powerful healing cub hugs I received as a young mother was from my three children.  Each one had this special way of hugging me around the neck and at the same time patting my shoulder with one of their small hands.  Lets go out and hug someone (and self) today, it is healing.
