Cheerfulness is seeing the bright side and looking for the good in whatever happens. It is maintaining a positive attitude of optimism and confidence. Even when life is challenging, we make the best of it, and trust all will be well. A cheerful smile can light up everyone’s day. It nurtures happiness.
“Cheerfulness, it would appear,
is a matter which depends fully as much on the state
of things within,
as on the state of things without and around us.”
~ Charlotte Brontë
CHEERFULNESS IS HEALING!
Humming is a soothing form of sound medicine, infusing your body with many therapeutic benefits. Imagine filling your head with the vibration of a calming “humm” for one, two or even 5 minutes. It’s bliss. Bliss that you can create inside your head and body within seconds. We also can receive the same benefits from whistling.
The simple act of humming can have similar effects, according to research into what’s known as vibrational medicine, and that various frequencies can produce healing properties. Along with calming your spirits and your nervous system, it improves your breathing rate and boosts oxygen distribution throughout the body.
Humming may be one of the most natural things a person can do, yet the benefits are surprisingly far reaching. It produces a positive effect on both heart rate and blood pressure. Smiling, while humming your favorite tune or the sound “Om,” (pronounced AOM) for two minutes, changes your mindset and emotions. If you started humming right now, your muscles in the face, jaws, and shoulders would begin to relax. GO FOR IT! START HUMMING!
The dictionary defines creativity as the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc. The joy in creativity is in the process not necessarily the outcome.
To be Creative
means to be in love with life.
You can be Creative
only if you love life enough
that you want to enhance its beauty,
you want to bring a little more music to it,
a little more poetry to it,
a little more dance to it.
Passion is one great force that unleashes creativity,
because if you’re passionate about something,
then you’re more willing to take risks.
You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.
Understanding is having clear insight into ideas and feelings. It is thoughtfully seeking to comprehend the full truth and being mindful of what is most important. It is having compassion and empathy for others. I am not sure where this old saying originated, but it is a great one to reflect on when necessary: “You can’t really UNDERSTAND another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.”
The Practice of Understanding:
1. Reflect on the meaning of ideas.
2. Have empathy for others.
3. Be mindful of meaning.
4. Be a discerning listener.
5. Be compassionate.
6. Forgive mistakes.
7. Value knowledge and perceptiveness.
“If one is master of one thing and understands
one thing well, one has at the same time,
insight into and understanding of many things.”
~Vincent Van Gogh

“The most courageous act
is still to think for yourself.
~Coco Chanel (1883-1971)
Care no more for the opinion of others …
Do the hardest thing on earth for you.
Act for yourself. Face the truth.”
~Katherine Mansfield (1988-1923)
“We are volcanoes. When we women
offer our experiences as our truth,
all the maps change.
There are new mountains.
That’s what I want—to hear
you erupting. You Mt. St. Helenses
who don’t know the power in you—
If we don’t tell our truth, who will?”
~Ursula K. Le Guin (1929-
A ritual is a ceremony or action performed in a customary way. It can be any act or practice regularly repeated in a set precise manner to improve physical, mental or spiritual health. Each morning I get up very early prepare my breakfast latte and my ‘Dave’s Killer Bread’ toast and begin my morning reading before my walk. I don’t think of this as a habit, it is my Healthy Morning Ritual.
“Rituals of healing have a profound sense of sacred.
When we use them to renew the fabrics of our lives
that become unraveled
by change, chaos, illness, and death,
a sense of balance and harmony emerge that reconnect
our energies and meet our needs of the moment.”
