Balancing Ying & Yang Energy

How can we direct our everyday lifestyle choices to help balance the two energetic polarities referred to as Yin and Yang by Chinese Medicine?   Balancing our Yin (feminine energy) and Yang (masculine energy) establishes harmony within the mind, body, and spirit.

Balancing Yin & Yang EnergyYin is restorative energy.  It allows our mind-body to slow down, relax, and rest.  Yin encompasses  the elements that nourish our body. Concentration, determination to follow beliefs, and morals are also connected to Yin energy.  When we cut ourselves off from Yin energy with excessive Yang energy, we lose the ability to fluidly move and adapt to different circumstances, be receptive to others, and connect with our creative inspiration.  Instead of feeling peaceful and rested throughout our day, weBalancing Yin & Yang Energy become rigid, agitated and overextended.  There is a feeling of continually needing to keep moving and keep doing.

Yang is fiery energy.  It  is the action behind every process between your mind and body.  Yang  drives and motivates all your emotional, physical, and spiritual decisions.  This is the energy you feel when you are moving your energy out into the world, focused on completing a task, and associated with the practical, logical thinking of the left hemisphere of the brain, as well as an extroverted personality.  However, Yang deficiency caused by excessive Yin energy, is when we have a hard time creating the experiences that we want in the world.  We lose sight of our goals, lose inspiration to create the things that we want for ourselves, and can slip into depression.

The following suggestions are all beneficial ways to balance your Yin and Yang Energy:

Balancing Yin & Yang EnergyReach out to nature - take a walk and absorb the life energy of nature with every breath.

Nutrition – take time to eat health foods instead of grazing on empty junk.

Water – plenty of pure, clean water will help flush out toxins and rehydrate you. Most people underestimate their need for water.

Meditation – quality quiet time to get in touch with yourself.  Realize where you’ve become deficient and work to correct the deficiency.

Tai chi – movements balance body, mind, and spirit. Helps recognize disharmony before it gets out of hand.
