Forgiveness: the act of forgiving, pardon, overlooking mistakes and letting go of resentments. Forgiveness frees us from the needless pain of reliving a hurt over and over. Forgiving oneself and others can have a positive impact on the way old wounds heal. The role of unforgiveness is the opposite of forgiveness in the healing process. Negative emotions associated with unforgiveness can include bitterness, resentment, hostility, anger, hatred and fear. To truly forgive, one must replace the inner negative emotions of unforgiveness with positive emotions which include love, compassion, and empathy.
