Tuesday's Healing Word Appreciation

Being snowbound these last two days has given me such an appreciation of the beauty of winter’s nature.  It also reminded me that it had been awhile since writing a Tuesday’s Healing Word.  Appreciation is a great healing word.  It is seeing the good in life.  It is recognizing the gifts that come our way and showing gratitude for them.

Tuesday's Healing Word Appreciation

Besides the healing we receive by practicing self-appreciation,  we express our appreciation of others. When we express appreciation to others, we mirror the virtues we see in them.  It is giving them a healing gift of love.  Love thrives on appreciation.  We don’t dwell on the unpleasant things of life.  We value the learning even in the painful times.

Tuesday's Healing Word Appreciation

I invite you to embrace the beauty and pleasures life offers, and fill your cup today!

Tuesday's Healing Word Assertive

Assertiveness is speaking one’s truth with peaceful confidence.  Assertiveness comes from knowing our own worth, and honoring the dignity of who we are.  We have the courage to speak up for what we believe is right.  We treat ourselves and others with respect and expect respect at all times.

Tuesday's Healing Word Assertiveness

We never beg or make demands. We know what we stand for and what we won’t stand for.   We ask for what we need by making simple, positive requests and set boundaries without guilt.  Sometimes we need to stop and ask ourselves how are we practicing Assertiveness as a virtue?

Tuesday's Healing Word = Gratitude

Gratitude is a constant attitude of thankfulness and appreciation for life as it unfolds. It is a virtue we can never have to much of and in life’s trials, we seek to understand, to accept, and to learn. Gratitude is the essence of genuine happiness.

Gratitude births only positive feelings –  love, compassion, joy, and hope.

As we focus on what we are thankful for – fear, anger, and bitterness,

simply melt away, seemingly without effort.

~M. J. Ryan

“Happiness cannot be travelled to, owned,

earned, worn or consumed.

Happiness is the spiritual experience

of living every minute

with love, grace, and Gratitude.”

~Denis Waitley

Tuesday's Healing Word Cherish

Webster’s New World Dictionary states:  ‘CHERISH’ means: To hold dear; To feel or show love for; To take good care of; protect; To cling to the idea or feeling of.  The American Heritage Dictionary adds: To treat with affection and tenderness.  What do you Cherish?  We at times get so bogged down with everyday minutiae that what we cherish is ignored.

Cherish sunsets, wild creatures and wild places.

Have a love affair with the wonder and beauty of the earth.

~Stewart Udall

Tuesday's Healing Word-Detachment

Detachment is experiencing our feelings without allowing them to control us.   We can practice letting go and accepting what we cannot change.  It is freedom from bias or prejudice.  Detachment is a deep breath of peace and patience in response to unexpected anger.  We can listen without losing ourselves.

“Detachment does not mean

non-involvement.

You can be deeply involved

but not entangled.”

~Ali ibn abi Talib (601-661)

Tuesday's Healing Word - Detachment

It is self-healing to detach from others’ choices, knowing that their spiritual work is not ours to do.  When we see and accept our mistakes honestly, we can make amends and start afresh with detachment.

Tuesday's Healing Word - Detachment

Practicing detachment frees us to lead our lives with grace.

Tuesday's Healing Word Wonder

Wonder is a feeling of surprise mingled with admiration, caused by something beautiful, unexpected, unfamiliar, or inexplicable.  It is being open to the mysteries of life.  When we look at the grandeur of nature, it can move us deeply.  It is our soul’s appreciation for that which is precious and inspiring.

“The more clearly we can focus our attention

on the wonders and realities of the universe about us,

the less taste we shall have for destruction.”

~Rachel Carson

Tuesday's Healing Word-Liberate

Liberate or liberating is making you feel free and being able to behave as you like.  Author, Caren Goldman questions in her book, Healing Words for The Body, Mind and Spirit, “What keeps you so frozen in time that you can’t find the energy or wherewithal to break loose and be who you are now?  Is it an old tape playing back something belittling someone once said?  Is it self-judgment, doubt or criticism?  Is it a fear of change?”

To see your drama clearly

is to be Liberated

from it.

~Kahlil Gibran

Tuesday's Healing Word Surrender

Dr. Judith Orloff, an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at UCLA, has helped patients find emotional freedom for over 20 years.  She shares the following, 4 Ways to Heal through Surrendering, in her book The Ecstasy of Surrender:

Tuesday's Healing Word Surrender

1. Surrender fear.  The mind has the power to think positively or negatively. The direction you choose can shape your healing. All thoughts aren’t created equal. Some, like fear, are more aggressive than others and take up more space in your psyche. If you indulge fear, a master seducer that preys on your doubts, there will be less room for hope, faith, and love.

Tuesday's Healing Word Surrender2. Surround yourself with healing people.  People can affect our health in a positive or negative way.  To heal, surrender to those who are loving.  Surrendering to the love of friends and family has the power to make you feel good and soften pain. The more you absorb these vibes, the better you will be.

3. Prepare nurturing personal space.  Your physical environment affects your healing. Unclutter your home or recovery room. A serene, light-filled, uncluttered room provides the open space to get well. A dark, stuffy, noisy, chaotic environment is disturbing. It can slow your recovery because you’ll be spending energy fighting off unpleasant distractions and stagnant clutter.

4. Surrender to peacefulness.  Find a serene place in your home where you can rest and relax. Settle into the stillness as you surrender to the peace and beauty. No rushing. No pressure. Take your time in the space. Breathe in the sweet smells, admire the quality of light, the joyous flowers, the lusciousness of a bowl of fruit. Enjoy soothing music that inspires your healing. Create a sacred altar if this resonates with you and feels comforting. Meditate. Absorb the goodness, healing, and rejuvenation all around you.

uesday's Healing Word-Integrity

Integrity is living by your highest standards.  It is being honest and sincere with others and ourselves.  It means standing up for what we believe is right and our actions match our words.  When discovering in a personal or business situation that there has been a challenge in trusting integrity, there is always a lesson for me to look at and evaluate my own integrity.

Tuesday's Healing Word - Decisiveness

Decisiveness is firmness of mind in taking a stand or making a decision.  It requires one to be both courageous and discerning.  Being decisive, we are content with our decisions and do not second-guess ourselves.

Tuesday's Healing Word - Decisiveness

At times, a choice appears and we must make it instantly, without hesitation, prompted by a deep knowing that it is right and timely.  Linda Kavelin Popov, founder of The Virtues Project™ gives us the following:

Tuesday's Healing Word - Decisiveness

that the gifts such as logic, decisiveness,

and strength are just as feminine

as intuition and emotional connection.

She values and uses all of her gifts.
